It’s the beginning of a new year, as well as a new decade. But despite the new date on the calendar, one thing remains the same: new composites products are here for the taking.

Premi-Glas 2550 CR-SX by Premix, Inc
Premi-Glas 2550 CR-SX, is an advanced thermoset molding compound from Premix, Inc. with smoke and flame retardant properties. The company is targeting the material for use in construction products, such as housings, drain pans, and side walls for hot air furnaces, air handlers and air conditioning units; and for building products such as residential and commercial doors. The compound exceeds Class I acceptance criteria listed in the UL 723 standard from Underwriters Laboratories, a preferred test method in the construction industry.
Many of us recycle paper, now some companies are recycling machines. Accu-Router has recycled a Green CNC machining cell for furniture frame production from an original 1996 platform. The reinforced steel weldments, aluminum table, and electrical cabinets were all recycled, but virtually all other components are new. The remanufacturing process results in the Accu-Router becoming a High Velocity model with very fast speeds (3,000 inches per minute rapid rates on the X and Y axes). Several of the new features on this machine cell were developed in cooperation with the University of Tennessee-Knoxville over the last two academic years.
The Cleveland Vibrator Company is shaking up its line of volumetric Rectangular Feeder Machines (RFM) by adding the RFM Integra Series–vibrating feeders with a built-in bulk hopper inlet. The new series has an integrated hopper and feeder design that relies on the actuation of two electrical vibrators to ensure a constant, reliable flow of castings, billets and other large parts. The Integra models offer a lower overall height and hopper walls angled at less than 30 degrees for reduced material dump height. It is designed for applications in such industries as plastic, processing and foundry.
Thumb through Lee Spring’s 2010 Stock and Custom Catalog, and you’ll see two new product lines incorporating composites. LeeP Plastic Composite Springs are designed to meet a wide range of applications where non-corroding, non-metallic, inert materials are preferred. They are stocked in a variety of standard sizes and strengths formulated from different Ultem composites. The six increasing strengths are identifiable by different colors. Additionally, Bantam Mini Compression Springs are miniature stock springs that combine strength with corrosion resistance. They start at wire diameter .004″, just slightly thicker than a human hair, and range up to .0055″ in outside diameters .025 to .057″. The springs are also designed to be ten percent stronger than stainless steel and heat-resistant up to 850 degrees.
