Composites Products Worth Seeing

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Have you already broken (or not even begun) your New Year’s resolutions? It’s not too late to get energized and moving, like these companies who are starting off 2010 with new products.

TuffPly 001Singapore company Uber Engineering Pte Ltd. is uber-excited to unveil its new series of composite decking applications. Its TuffPly, TuffDeck, and TuffPlank panels are designed for load bearing decking on both industrial and residential segments. Mechanically stable and robust, the boards will not rust, rot, warp or be prone to termite attack due to its all plastic metal reinforced structure. Due to its high stiffness and bending strength, the board supports are designed to be spaced further, which the company says can reduce material and installation costs. The boards come in wide sheets of 1.3m width, and also feature 3D textured designs and multi-colored facing choices.

Elsewhere in Asia, Time Technoplast Ltd. has launched high tech Composite Cylinders for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for India’s market. The company is making the decision after performing extensive market research in the Asian region to determine which products had large business potential. The company says the cylinders are explosion proof, can withstand three times higher pressure before leaking locally (no explosion), are 1/3rd of the weight of metal tanks, non-corrosive, rust proof and maintenance free. The tanks are made of glass reinforced fiber, which allows consumers to see the level of gas inside the cylinder. Ultimately, TimeTech is setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit at Talasari, India (Maharashtra) with a capacity of one million cylinders per year to be operational by April 2011.

ML-3500C curing trophyNext, we’ll shine a light on Spectronics Corporation as it releases the Spectroline OPTIMAX 365C – a cordless, rechargeable true UV-A LED flashlight designed for curing of adhesives, sealants, epoxies, resins, coatings and other materials. The 365C utilizes ultra-hi-flux LED technology to produce a nominal steady-state UV-A intensity of 60,000 µW/cm² at a distance of 6” (15 cm). The company says that because it is powered by a rechargeable NiMH battery, the flashlight can provide 90 minutes of continuous use between charges and a 30,000-hour lifetime. The flashlight weighs 11.8 ounces and has a corrosion-resistant anodized lamp body for industrial use.

X Factory announces a new carbon fiber part to reinforce the rear body clip area of it’s X – 60 body. The company says because the rear body clips are in a recessed spot, this area is a weak spot on the body. The new C.F. part, #8260, spreads the stress over a larger area to lengthen the life of the body. The C.F. part bolts onto the existing body and will transfer easily to a new body, so one purchase will last through several bodies for the life of your truck. #8260 is supplied with the screws and locking nuts to install it and a drill bit so the body mount holes can be enlarged to accommodate the new part.
