Composite Products Worth Seeing
While we here at Composites Manufacturing can only think about ACMA’s convention next week in Las Vegas, other companies have new product developments on the brain.
Imperium, Inc uses cameras for more than recreation; they also use them for Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) of materials. The company unveiled its new Acoustocam i600, a lighter more rugged version of the world’s only handheld portable camera device used by companies such as Boeing, US Navy, Airbus, NASA, Hexcel and others for NDI of composite materials. The i600 Acoustocam is a much smaller and easier to manage handheld device and is built of more rugged material, uses a tenth of the number of parts of the previous model i500, is approximately half its size and a third of its weight. The product is designed to make comprehensive NDI examinations easier and more comfortable for technicians.
Strongwell Corporation is hoping to keep bridge engineers on the grid with its GRIDFORM Design Guide, targeted to engineers working with reinforced concrete bridge decks. GRIDFORM is a prefabricated fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) double-layer grating grid system with an FRP plate bonded to the bottom grating layer as an integral stay-in-place form. The guide has been developed to demonstrate how the product can be used as an alternative to steel rebar as the internal reinforcement system for concrete bridge decks. Engineers can enter the bridge’s specific load requirements and properties and the guide will provide design results for a reinforced bridge deck. The guide is available to download on Strongwell’s website.
Moyno, Inc. wants to pump you up with its Moyno 1000 positive displacement pump, meant to provide greater versatility and performance advantages over other types of positive displacements pumps. The pump comes with a two-piece drive shaft, which the company says eliminates the need for complete pump disassembly when servicing the mechanical seal. It is engineered for operation in a variety of services including shear sensitive chemical feeds, adhesives, lime, polymer metering, slurries and viscous crude oil transfer applications.
No need to feel pressure, but know that Sensor Products has a new pressure-indicating sensor film called Pressurex, designed to prevent defects in ultrasonic welding of carbon fiber. Routine use of the film during the setup of ultrasonic welders is designed to proper contact pressure and alignment between the horn and anvil, which results in welds of greater bond strength and aids in reducing rejected product and lowering base factory cost. The film also reveals the distribution and magnitude of pressure between any two contacting surfaces. When placed between the horn and the anvil of the ultrasonic bonder, the film instantaneously and permanently changes color directly proportional to the actual pressure applied.
