Composite Products Worth Seeing

May 13, 2010

As we reach the middle of spring, many people are suffering from allergies due to the changing amounts of pollen in the air. These companies, however, are not allergic to changing the composite landscape as they offer new products:

Clear your mind before trying INEOS NOVA’s new CLEARBLEND resin, a line of clear, impact-modified styrene acrylic copolymers for injection molding applications that are engineered to provide a cost effective balance of clarity and toughness. The new resins offer the same advantages of processing, specific gravity, and moisture content as the company’s other clear high performance styrenic product lines NAS and ZYLAR. These are designed to make a significant contribution to overall sustainable results through source reduction and lower energy consumption. The company says the resins are manufactured without bisphenol-A or phthalates to benefit applications like housewares, drinkware, toys, and various device components.

Time is on Scott Bader Composites’ side because its Crystic Crestomer range of high performance urethane acrylate structural adhesives has recently been extended to include a new longer working time grade. The new product, Crystic Crestomer 1153PA, is aimed at composite manufacturers of larger FRP structures, typically with dimensions over 25 meters, who would benefit during production from a significantly longer adhesive open working time of up to 90 minutes. The longer working time is also targeted to fabricators operating in high local daytime ambient temperatures above 25 C, where climates can vary from season to season.

Hoping to spin some yarn of its own, CEREX Advanced Fabrics, Inc. unveiled the N-Fusion family of nylon spunbond fabrics that are engineered for the composites industry. The products are designed to enhance surface finish, impact resistance, and deeper, richer colors through a natural resin affinity, which brings more resin to the surface of the composite product. Utilizing proprietary process technology and the advantages of nylon, the company says the products deliver a surface barrier that improves UV protection, increases surface impact resistance, and provides unmatched abrasion and corrosion resistance. They are targeted for use in industries such as filtration, automotive, aerospace, and other industrial and consumer markets.
